Sustainability

Where do we get our food?

All the food here at our lodge is gathered fresh from local fishereies and markets for fruit and veg.

The menu may change monthly as we try to switch-up our meal plans to ensure we aren't draining any local resources.

How is waste managed?

We pride ourselves here at Tonga Travels Ecolodge by the little amount of waste we produce! All visitors are provided with one refillable water bottle to keep with them during their weekly stay, any waste food from the dining hall goes to local farms compost heaps and there is no plastic or metal products sold on site to be discarded.

There are also several recycling bins spaced around reception and the halls in case you have anything from home you wish to dispose of responsibly.

How do you get power?

All power is provided by the solar panels installed all over the main resort. The daily sunlight from Lifukas tropical climate gives more than enough power for our simplstic fales - with only the hot water and lighting requiring energy.

Managing carbon emissions

At our ecolodge we try to use as little carbon as possible in all of our travel.  We pick all our guests up in one trip to avoid multiple bus journeys to and from the airport. In addition to this, we have a full day of diving rather than multiple trips to and from the lodge to reduce the amount of fuel we use.

We offer an additional service if you wish to offset your carbon emissions. Please enquire at reception if you wish to take part.
