An Incredible Journey

Humpback whales migrate to Tonga from the southern ocean in the winter (July-October). The relaxing atmosphere of Tonga’s waters is perfect for the whales to calve and mate, and the plentiful food ensures that by November their calves are strong enough to make the 8000km return journey to their summer feeding grounds.

Our trips take all day, leaving at 9am and returning at 5pm giving you the maximum time to enjoy the company of the whales. We will provide food and refreshments for the trip, including lunch and plenty of water.

At Tonga Travels, our top priority is the welfare of the animals so unfortunately we cannot offer swimming with the whales as this has been found to distress the whales. Our boats are equipped with the quietest engines possible and we adhear to the seawatch foundations strict guidelines to protect the animals as much as possible. We will give you a short briefing just before boarding the boat to ensure that you know our guidelines, and to give you some background on the animals you will be swimming with.

Sign up is required the night before the trip by signing in at the reception desk.
